Nationwide TV broadcast in Papua New Guinea

Forgotten Bird of Paradise has today been broadcast nationwide on Kundu 2 TV in Papua New Guinea, marking a significant milestone in the film’s journey and its growing regional impact.

This is the first time the documentary has been aired on national television in the country, bringing the story directly into homes across Papua New Guinea. The broadcast comes at a particularly poignant moment, coinciding with the conclusion of West Papuan independence leader Benny Wenda’s month-long tour across the country, during which awareness and solidarity have continued to build.

Given the shared border and deep cultural ties between Papua New Guinea and West Papua, this screening carries particular weight. It opens up space for wider public engagement with an issue that is geographically close yet often underrepresented in mainstream media. For many viewers, this may be their first opportunity to witness the realities faced by West Papuans through firsthand accounts and rare footage.

It is hoped that the broadcast will help raise awareness among audiences about the situation unfolding just across the border in Indonesian-occupied West Papua, while encouraging deeper understanding, discussion and solidarity with those affected.
